Coram Deo at Home
Living Coram Deo means that we are living with acute awareness of God's holy presence, his rule, and his standard for what is good, beautiful, and true. It's a functional knowledge, not mere intellectual assent to the truth of God.
Our prayer is that our families would be growing in these and other patterns of living before the face of God at home, that our walk would match our talk, demonstrating to our children the genuine aroma of Christ in us, and that the gospel has feet.
The Fear of God
Our children must know the true pattern of acknowledging the Lord because it is the seedbed for gospel repentance, for valiant suffering, and for confident living into the future.
Righteousness
Let's impress upon our children that following the Lord's law is not a chore or a burden. It is a delight to see moral beauty and perfection on display.
Repentance
Hypocrisy is a deterrent, a horrible stench to the wandering heart for truth. But humility is a fragrance that invites the lost to investigate the quiet power of God at work in repentance.
Forgiveness
The wrongdoer is not entitled to forgiveness. He is in the wrong, and at the mercy of the forgiver. Forgiveness is a deliberate act of love.
Devotion
Our children must know the true pattern of acknowledging the Lord because it is the seedbed for gospel repentance, for valiant suffering, and for confident living into the future.
Feeding On God's Word
And that which we regularly feed on cultivates the appetite. The acquired taste of God's pure and perfect Word is the taste, texture, nourishment, and sustenance we cannot unlearn. Its goodness and riches merit more Michelin stars than the heavens hold.
Sacrifice
But when Jesus went to the cross of his own will, paying the invaluable price of his own life, he won for me a gift I was not owed and did not deserve. I received the offer of the eternal peace with God, something that was not mine to claim.
